24 Hours in Liverpool
Isaac is now of the age where he is looking at universities to study.
Up until now, they have been fairly local, but last weekend he booked an open day at LIPA (Liverpool) and there was no way on earth that I was driving there and back in a day as it’s a good 5 hour drive from Poole.
I spent quite a while researching accommodation and the cheapest way of visiting was getting an AirBNB in Liverpool as we were travelling with Isaac’s friend and his parents too.

The house we picked was perfect, a traditional terrace, with three bedrooms – plenty of room to sleep 5 in comfort and a five minute walk to Anfield and a short 10 minute drive to Liverpool city centre.

We left Poole at 7am and arrived in Liverpool at around 2pm, thanks to Storm Amy trying to throw all sorts of turbulent weather in our direction. Once we had settled in to our new accommodation, we managed to catch the last stadium tour of the day at Anfield.

The stadium is really impressive and even as a non-fan, it is fascination to explore the club’s rich history and access must-see areas such as the Press Conference Room, This Is Anfield sign, the Player’s Tunnel, Managerial Dugout and the Home Team Dressing Room.

I think the boys most enjoyed the Press Conference Room, where they filmed themselves making spoof videos of manager talks and we were very happy to see a couple of Chelsea players in Jamie Carragher’s top 11.

Once we had finished at Anfield, it was off to the city centre to explore.

The high winds and torrential rain meant that we only saw the Liver Building, the Beatles statues and then headed for cover, as we were almost blown off our feet.

There had been some debate about where to go on the way up and as the boys wanted to watch the football and it was close by, we ended up in Hooters.

I was skeptical at first, but I was pleasantly surprised. The service was impeccable, the food delicious and the atmosphere was competitive, but fun – it was Chelsea vs Liverpool after all.

It was very busy, with wall to wall screens showing the match, but everyone was in good spirits and didn’t mind us Chelsea fans quietly celebrating our win, although the highlights were switched off quite quickly.

With the weather so bad, once we had finished we headed back to our AirBNB for the night.
Our university tour was booked for 11am, so headed to Tim Hortons for breakfast and then straight to LIPA, which is directly behind the cathedral.

We were all really impressed with the university and the building is a real mix of old and new – something I hadn’t been expecting.
It was then time for our final visit of our trip to Liverpool – Liverpool Cathedral, the largest cathedral in Britain and the 5th largest in the world.

Being a Sunday, there was a service in progress when we arrived, so we cut our visit short, but I am hoping to go back when Isaac has his audition, to attend their Christmas light show. The small parts we did see, were very impressive though.

What I have learned about Liverpool is that it is a very friendly city and 24 hours is not long enough to explore!

Where would you recommend we visit when we return?
