Opal Apartments Iceland – Review

When travelling with the kids, we prefer to stay in a apartment or cottage as it gives us more space and the chance for the kids to have their own space.

During our stay in Iceland, we stayed at Opal Apartments which are situated on the main Laugavegur Street – one of the oldest streets in Iceland’s capital.

Laugavegur Street

Although it is the main high street, Opal Apartments are situated at the end and apart from the occasional bus rumbling past, we found them very quiet and peaceful.

Opal Apartments

The apartment had an open plan kitchen and living area, with all the home comforts you need including coffee maker, dishwasher, fridge freezer, oven, kettle, toaster and microwave.

They even provided some of the cooking basic ingredients and tea / coffee.

There is a small outside space, lounge and dining area with widescreen TV (and UK TV channels) and a separate utility area with washing machine and drying rack.

There are two bedrooms – one twin and one double, both with plenty of storage and they put up an extra bed in the main living area for Isaac.

We were in the top floor apartment which is serviced by a lift or stairs and were treated to gorgeous vaulted ceilings and church like windows.

The bathroom was accessed from the living area and had a large walk-in shower, WC and basin with toiletries included.

All the Icelandic coach tours operate a pick up service and although they don’t pick you up directly from the apartment, they use local stops and we were within a 5 minute walk of both Bus Stop 10 and Bus Stop 13.

Bus Stop

The apartment was also within easy reach of 3 local supermarkets – the cheapest of which is called Bonus and the main high street shops, restaurants and harbour are also from a 5 minute walk away.

I would certainly recommend staying Opal Apartments and would not hesitate to book them again.

We always prefer apartments over hotels. Gives us more space and flexibility. Will save this one for our long planned visit to Iceland

What an amazing place to stay! I prefer to book an apartment than a hotel, as you say it offers more flexibility for the whole family.

Oh this little place looks lovely. I absolutely love that open plan kitchen, an island is something that I’ve always wanted to do in our kitchen. But it’s far too small.

When it comes to choosing where to stay with the family, we too often opt for apartments as opposed to hotels. The Opal apartments sound like the best place to stay.

We always do self catering, never hotels, when travelling with the kids. We went on honeymoon to Iceland but would love to go back again with the kids, so will be taking a note of this!

I’m starting to look more towards apartments and things as you then get the space to relax and not feel like the room is just somewhere to sleep in x

It can be so much easier to go self catering, especially when we take the kids. It sounds like a great place to stay.
