Review: Frozen The Musical Theatre Royal London

Eliza and I last saw Frozen the Musical back in 2021 and loved it, so when we heard it was closing in September 2024 I decided to book tickets to see it again with her, my older daughter, Abbey and granddaughter, Lilah.

Unlike our last visit, where Covent Garden had been transformed in to a Winter Wonderland, we decided to make it special by visiting The Theatre Cafe on Shaftesbury Avenue, just a short walk away.

With theatrical memorabilia adorning the walls and regular live performances from the stars of the West End and Broadway, it’s the place for any theatre fan. You can request the songs they sing on a chalk board and Lilah was delighted when they sang “Love is an Open Door” just for her.

From there, we walked the short walk to Covent Garden, ready to take our seats for the show.

The show every bit as magical as I remember, and Lilah was in awe. The story has been adapted for the stage and all songs from the original are in it, albeit some of the words have been altered, plus there are some brilliant new additions in there too.

I was worried Lilah might not have enjoyed the new songs, but she sat perfectly still and quiet, apart from a squeal of delight when Olaf first made his appearance.

We did notice that some of the choreography had changed, specifically during Love is an Open Door, but that only added to the performance but the incredible set changes that took you from the palace, to the sea, the mountains and then the ice palace and back again, were the same.

My only negative feedback from the show is that it is, quite understandably, full of excited young children and there was lots of rustling and chattering throughout the show. The ushers did their best to quieten them down, but it was frustrating at times. I don’t remember quite as much chattering one our last visit, but we were in the circle last time and the stalls this time.

All in all, we loved our visit to see Frozen the Musical, the ice palace was stunning, with a mixture of crystals hanging from the walls and lights creating the magic. Elsa’s costume transformation was just as incredible the second time around and I still cannot work out how they did it so effectively. Our favourite song of the night remains Hygge, with its catchy tune and brilliant dance routine.

Frozen concludes its icy adventure in the UK,with its final performance on Sunday 8th September!!

My little problem with Frozen was kids dancing in front of me- this was the US Tour (June 2022). Just wish that tour didn’t cut out “True Love” (thank god, its still on the Original Broadway Soundtrack)

Are we nearly there yet? is a new online blog run by me, Kara Guppy, and is named as such thanks to my daughter Eliza who always asks that very question when we are less than 5 minutes up the road heading off on our adventures. You may know me from my other family blog chelseamamma.co.uk
