Review: Mary Poppins UK Tour
The world’s most famous nanny is on tour in the UK and we were lucky enough to see her fly into Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre, so spread her magic and cheer.
Mary Poppins is one of my favourite childhood films and whilst they have updated and added to the story for the stage, it has only been improved with some new characters, upbeat songs and colourful dance numbers.

The main story, however, remains the same, with the ever lovable Bert (Jack Chambers) taking charge of the story. Both he and Mary (Stefanie Jones), have wonderful chemistry together as they guide you through the lives of Mr & Mrs Banks and their slightly mischievous children, Michael and Jane.

The whole show was brilliant from beginning to end, but the highlight for me was the amazing rooftop scene, when Bert and the chimney sweep lads perform an amazing masterclass in tap/street dancing and of course, the ever popular “supercalifragilsticexpialidocious” song, complete with new dance moves.

The whole production was flawless and the sets were perfect, from the dull and dreary park, which magically transforms into a colourful wonderland, to the Bank’s home on Cherry Tree Lane and the clever parlour scene for A spoon full of sugar – a special mention must go to Rhuairidh MacDonald as Robertson Ay, the hapless young servant boy, who had us crying with laughter at his antics.
If you are after a truly feel-good, wholesome night out, you really cannot go wrong with Mary Poppins – I guarantee you’ll be singing the entire way home.
Mary Poppins is on tour in the UK until January 2026, where it finishes its run in Liverpool.
