Review: SIX The Musical Tour

Posted on
November 3, 2023

I love History and my favourite period of time has always been Tudor England and predominately Henry VIII and his six wives.

Back in 2017, SIX the Musical launched at the Edinburgh Festival to rave reviews and has since won 26 major international awards.

We were booked in to see SIX back in 2020, and we all know what happened then, but we finally got to see SIX The Musical Tour at Lighthouse Poole last night.

I know and love the score thanks to my daughter’s obsession with it, BUT, it is SO much better live where you get to see the story unfold!!

SIX isn’t like your typical musical, I would liken it more to a pop concert and the wives engage with the audience with humour, song and dance.

The Tudor Queens have transformed from the famous wives of Henry VIII, to fierce Pop Princesses whose characters are based on elements of a number of music icons including Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Celine Dion, Lily Allen and Emeli Sandé, to battle it out to see who was the best of the wives.

The six queens all have pop-inspired costumes, which reflect the character of each of their personalities and are backed by an all-female live band. I have never seen a ruff look so cool!!

They command the stage for an 80-minute celebration of 21st century girl power, and finished off to one of the longest standing ovations I have witnessed in a theatre. In fact, I don’t think any of the audience wanted to leave and thoroughly enjoyed the invitation to stand up, dance and sing along at the finale.

SIX The Musical Tour is at Lighthouse Poole until 12th November and I cannot recommend it highly enough – we would love to see it again.

Go on – get……………..Divorced. Beheaded. LIVE!

Are we nearly there yet? is a new online blog run by me, Kara Guppy, and is named as such thanks to my daughter Eliza who always asks that very question when we are less than 5 minutes up the road heading off on our adventures. You may know me from my other family blog chelseamamma.co.uk
