Review: Glow Marwell, a Magical Light Experience

Posted on
November 20, 2022

This week we were invited to Glow Marwell, a magical light experience filled with twinkling fairy lights and stunning illuminating displays.

Unfortunately, we chose the worst day possible to visit, as we experienced torrential rain throughout our visit, not that the kids minded as they gazed in awe at the different light displays.

There are more than 250,000 LED lights and 3 miles of cable in the 1.7km route of sparkling displays, which wind around in an arc shape to the Cafe Graze, past Marwell Hall and then back to the entrance.

Along the route there are plenty of interactive displays to keep the kids interested and entertained. My kids particularly enjoyed the giant coloured screens and insisted we film their antics.

Marwell also had winter warmer catering available, with plenty of seasonal treats including marshmallow toasting round their cosy fire pits and delicious donuts.

We stopped to eat and dry out a bit at Cafe Graze and were treated to some entertainment. On wet days they use LED Hula Hoops and Juggler batons, but on dry days, they use fire.

If you are going with young children, it is worth noting that there are a couple of places which are very poorly lit and I lost my kids briefly, so keep a close eye on them, but the routes are clearly marked and they cannot wander off into other areas of the zoo.

All the animals are also safely tucked up in bed, so there isn’t an opportunity to see animals.

Glow Marwell is is running on selected evenings in November and December and tickets are completely separate from daytime admissions to the zoo. Prices start from £15 per adult and £12 per child and tickets must be booked in advance.

We spent just under 3 hours exploring, which included stopping to eat dinner and make S’Mores.

We really enjoyed our visit, despite the weather and if you are looking for a festive evening out, you won’t be disappointed.

Are we nearly there yet? is a new online blog run by me, Kara Guppy, and is named as such thanks to my daughter Eliza who always asks that very question when we are less than 5 minutes up the road heading off on our adventures. You may know me from my other family blog chelseamamma.co.uk
