Review: A Helicopter Flights over Bournemouth and Poole with Bliss Aviation

I am a big lover of flying and for Christmas I was gifted a Helicopter Flight over Bournemouth and Poole with Bliss Aviation.

I waited to book until the summer, to hopefully take advantage of the clear weather and, despite some rain in the morning, the skies had cleared for our flight in afternoon.

Departing from their base at Bournemouth Airport, we arrived half an hour before our flight to check in and take part in a short safety briefing. The helicopter holds four passengers and the seating plan was all fixed based on our weights, so there was no jostling for window seats, but we all had amazing views through the expansive windows.

Once onboard and strapped in, we were soon in the air and flying between the hangars at a low level, before ascending once we had reached the runway. Toby, our pilot, explained our route as we headed towards the coast.

Our journey along the coast took us from Hengistbury Head, along the coast over Bournemouth’s 7 miles of sandy beaches towards Poole at around 2,000 feet, so you got a great view over the whole area and Toby made sure that he pointed out landmarks, such as AFC Bournemouth’s stadium.

Poole Harbour is stunning from the air and Eliza loved seeing Brownsea Island, as her and Isaac both did volunteering there with the Young Conservationists. She could even spot the lagoon, where they had been clearing reed beds for the nesting terns.

From Poole Harbour we flew over the Purbeck hills and circled Corfe Castle so we could get a good view of the infamous castle.

It was then over to one of our favourite places locally, Swanage.

From Swanage we then flew over the very start of the Jurassic Coast, Old Harry Rocks and then back along the coast again towards Hengistbury Head.

Our flight lasted just over half an hour, as we had to circle Hengistbury Head a couple of times whilst waiting for a plane to land, but it gave us a chance to look across to Hurst Castle and the Isle of Wight.

Eliza and I thoroughly enjoyed our flight, it was a fantastic experience seeing where you live from the air and I would love to do another one further along the Jurassic Coast to see Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door from the air.

You can book flight experiences directly through Bliss Aviation, although ours was bought via Into The Blue.

@chelseamamma Absolutely loved our flight experience over Bournemouth, Poole and Swanage with @blissaviation – we flew from Bournemouth Airport over to Hengistbury Head, along the coast and back again #fyp #blissaviation #helicopter #experienceday #foryoupage ♬ original sound – Headbangers Dan

Are we nearly there yet? is a new online blog run by me, Kara Guppy, and is named as such thanks to my daughter Eliza who always asks that very question when we are less than 5 minutes up the road heading off on our adventures. You may know me from my other family blog chelseamamma.co.uk
