On the bucket list – Visiting Thailand

In the next of my bucket list posts I have chosen Thailand as the place I dream of visiting as many of my friends have been and raved about the stunning beaches, beautiful temples, bustling cities and vibrant night life.
I am a sucker for the beach and the islands off the coast of Thailand are famous throughout the world for their beautiful beaches and gorgeous scenery. Ko Phi Phi is top of my list as it was made famous by the movie “The Beach” and I would love to brush up my scuba diving skills at Ko Tao which is Thailand’s diving mecca.

Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok, is a buzzing city of high-rise buildings, magnificent palaces, ancient temples, glittering nightclubs, bustling markets and streets lined with vendors hawking souvenirs and tantalizing foods. Some of the city can be described as a concrete jungle, jam-packed with noisy traffic and air pollution, however Bangkok is not without its natural beauty that can be seen in its remaining canals, green spaces, flowering tropical plants and numerous golf courses which can be seen here at Golfscape. The famous tourist street, Khao San Road, is a good place to begin with its cheap shopping, dining and nightlife and the sacred Wat Phra Kaew temple, which contains the Emerald Buddha, is not to be missed.

If the buzz of a city appeals but Bangkok is too full on for you, the northern city of Chang Mai is much more relaxed as it has a much smaller population. There are many activities to keep you occupied including adrenalin activities such as caving, tree top zipping, abseiling, para-gliding, dune-buggy riding, as well as a night zoo safari, Tiger Kingdom and royal temples.

If you are familiar with my blog you will know that my husband is fascinated by WWII and we have recently visited Normandy and some of the sites that made history during that era. I would love to take him to see Kanchanaburi which is best known for the Bridge over the River Kwai which is linked with the historic Death Railway to Burma in which thousands of Asian labourers and POWS died during its construction under Japanese occupation during WWII. He would love to visit the many museums and war cemeteries to find out more information about the city and its bridge during the 1940’s Japanese occupation.

Just outside of Kanchanaburi are several national parks, including Erawan and Srinakarind National Parks, which offer beautiful scenery, waterfalls and caves.

For me, I would love to visit one of Thailand’s most beautiful wildlife reserves, the Khao Sok National Park which covers jungle forests, limestone karsts, rivers and lakes in the Surat Thani province. The reserve is home to wildlife such as Asian elephants, deer, wild boar, Malayan tapirs, Bears and various monkeys breeds. There are many trails in the park where visitors can go elephant trekking through the jungle to discover the wildlife and beautiful waterfalls, swim in natural pools and admire stunning vistas from on high.
