Dorset: 15 Half Term Events for February 2022

It is just 3 weeks until the kids break up for February half term and with restrictions easing, we are looking forward to a half term full of fun and adventures again.

I have collated some of our favourite local places to visit and extra activities and discounts below.

East Dorset

Cool Coast Ice Rink – Bournemouth

The South Coast’s biggest indoor ice rink, Cool Coast Ice Rink is situated at the rear of the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC), in the Purbeck Hall and is open until Tuesday 22nd February.

Ice skating session times run from 11:00am until 8:45pm, 7 days a week and each ice skating session lasts 60 minutes.

Moors Valley

Join Superworm and his friends on a brand new family activity trail. The self-led trail features brightly illustrated panels and a trail pack full of fun activities, including fact cards, stickers, trail leaflet and a forest superhero mask.

In addition to wonderful walks, fun play areas and the Moors Valley Railway there are also activities during the week which include making bird feed balls and wildflower seed-bombs plus creative crafts.

Be Outdoors Days – Avon Tyrell

During February, Avon Tyrell will be opening its doors for some outdoor fun.

You can choose from their Be Outdoor Days, which are a full day of outdoor fun suitable for children aged 8-12 years old. These days let the kids adventure outdoors, trying lots of exciting activities and pushing themselves, or Go Adventure days for 90 mins of fun activities for all the family.

Rockreef – The Pier – Bournemouth

From Saturday 19th to the 27th of February, RockReef will have all its indoor activities open 7 days a week, from 10am until 5pm.

The popular indoor attraction includes 28 climbing walls, a HighLine aerial obstacle course, Vertical Slide, Caves and the Leap of Faith.

Everyone can join in, from Toddlers to Teens and the adults are entertained too. Enjoy Comedy, challenges and don’t forget the Animals, with Snakes, Tarantulas, Scorpions, Lizards, Giant African Snails, Hissing Cockroaches and many more.

The venue is the Parkstone Trade and Labour Club and tickets are £5 per person and must be purchased in advance.

Walk with Alpaca’s – Hope Farm, Wimborne

Ever fancied walking an alpaca, well join the team at Hope Farm and you could do just that!!

It is great fun and also gives you the opportunity to feed the alpaca and goats too.

Snowtrax – Christchurch

There isn’t much chance of getting snow here in Dorset, however, you can still have some winter sports fun at Snowtrax.

Slide down our high speed sledging runs and race each other on Ski Bobs, or take a wild ride down our tubing run in a free spinning Ringo.

Dorset’s number one theme park is open, indoors and out for February half term.

South West Model Show at The Tank Museum – Bovington

The largest Model Show in the South West is back from Sat 19 – Sun 20 February 2022 at The Tank Museum! Model tanks, planes, ships, and trains of all types and sizes will be available to see, make and purchase.

Over two days, you will be able to view in incredible detail the painstaking work of more than 200 exhibitors from across the modelling spectrum. Exhibits will range from boats, planes, motor racing cars and of course masses of militaria and armoured warfare models!

The Tank Museum at Bovington holds over 300 tanks from 26 nations and the finest and most historically significant collection of fighting armour in the world. These range from the world’s first ever tank, Little Willie, through to the British Army’s current Main Battle Tank, Challenger 2.

Monkey World – Wareham

Get your little monkeys outside and into the fresh air, at the 65 acre Dorset Monkey World park, home to over 250 rescued and endangered monkeys and apes and what’s more – Kid’s tickets to Monkey World are half price for the week of the 19th to the 27th February 2022!

As well as seeing the stars of TV’s Monkey Life, the visitors can enjoy large play areas, cafes and picnic areas, and even watch video keeper talks to hear about the residents’ personalities and rescue stories from the people who know them best, without being tied to set times!

The Walled Garden of Moreton – Moreton

The Walled Garden of Moreton will have a Bugtastic Trail this February Half Term!

The Walled Garden is a beautiful five-acre landscaped formal garden situated in Moreton, Dorset. With on site café, children’s play park, and animal rescue centre, parking and entry are free, but Trail maps cost £2 per child. Find your away around the gardens, learn amazing facts, use your knowledge to complete the quiz and win a prize! Plus, giant ladybirds are hiding around the garden – can you find them all?

My kids favourite location to visit in Dorset and during February half term, you can launch your best cuddly friend down the Teddy Zipline – are they brave enough?

You’ll also find a new family trail exploring the people and places that have shaped the Bankes estate.

Shire Hall Museum – Dorchester

Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum brings over 200 years of justice and injustice to life and during half term, children can visit Shire Hall Museum for just £1!

Included with entry, children will be able to take part in a super seaside spotting trail and craft activities.

Time Travellers Trail – Durlston Country Park – Swanage

Durlston Country Park is anxpansive, clifftop nature reserve with a visitor centre/gallery in a renovated Victorian castle and the Great Globe, the largest stone sphere in the world.

Take a trip through Durlston’s past from the time of the dinosaurs to present day and solve the mystery to win a prize – price £3 per time traveller!

Discover an amazing underwater world at Sea Life, Weymouth.

As well as the aquariums, you can meet and greet a starfish at the rockpool, get up close to the cute Fairy Penguins and wave to the sea lions.
