Finding Dorset's Poppy Fields

Posted on
July 22, 2019

I love instagram for giving me ideas for days out with the kids and something I have been wanting to do for a while is to take the kids to see a field filled with flowers.

Eliza is my little flower girl and during our country walks, can often be found sat next to a batch of wildflowers with her book, trying to identify them.

A couple of weeks ago my husband told me he spotted a poppy field on the way to work, just past the popular National Trust location, Badbury Rings, near Wimborne.

The field is accessible from Badbury rings, however, we found a small carpark and pathway that allowed access to the field a little further along the Blandford Road.

There are several pathways through the poppies to choose from, meaning that you don’t disturb the flowers themselves.

If you do go exploring, I recommend you wear sturdy shoes as the ground is quite uneven underfoot.

We spent about an hour exploring the field, before heading to Barford Farm for a much needed ice cream treat.

Have you found any poppy fields near you?

They are the most curious flowers, I loved picking them up when I was a kid and the fields look so magical when they are in full bloom. Thank you for bringing back this memory.

Are we nearly there yet? is a new online blog run by me, Kara Guppy, and is named as such thanks to my daughter Eliza who always asks that very question when we are less than 5 minutes up the road heading off on our adventures. You may know me from my other family blog chelseamamma.co.uk
