5 Unusual Cruise Destinations to add to your Bucket List
We fell in love with cruising back in 2016 when we did a Mediterranean Cruise with Carnival Cruise Line.
It has left us wanting to do another cruise, sooner rather than later, and whilst doing our research I have found that there are some really unusual cruise destinations now on offer, from a variety of cruise operators, including these fantastic deals from Seabourn Cruises.
Antartica
Antartica is the southernmost and most remote continent on earth, with 98% of it covered in ice.
Cruises to the Antarctic start around their summer, which runs from December to March when it is possible to navigate through the ice.
Don’t expect it to be warm as top temperatures hover around the freezing mark, but Antarctica is the perfect place for adventure as it is so different from anywhere else on Earth that it can feel like a foreign planet.
It is also a nature lovers paradise with thousands of penguins, an abundance of birds, leopard seals patrolling the shorelines and the chance to do some whale watching as the ocean is the feeding area for thousands of whales.
Alaska
Alaska is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt destinations on earth, with snowcapped mountains, glaciers and forests to explore and some incredible wildlife spotting experiences on offer.
The Alaska cruise season runs from late April to September, with high season typically June, July and August and with temperatures around the 60°F – 70°F it is a warmer option than Antartica.
Follow the Vikings (West Nordic Region)
The cruise at the top of my bucket list is Norway, Iceland, Faroe Islands and Greenland – I must like the cold!
Cruise from the epic fjords along Norway’s west coast, to the Faroe Islands with their grass-roofed houses and grazing sheep. The scenery is spectacular with waterfalls that plunge into the sea.
Then onto the land of fire and ice, with its active volcanoes and mammoth glaciers, where you can literally jump between the continents of Europe into North America at Thingvellir.
Finally onto Greenland which is home to the second-largest fjord in the world and the midnight sun throughout the summer months.
Ha Long Bay
Ha Long Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and popular travel destination in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam.
Ha Long means “descending dragon” and legend has it that a dragon tore up the land with its tail, creating waterways dotted with jagged limestone pinnacles.
It is one of the most popular travel spots in Asia with over 1600 islands and inlets to explore.
Middle East Cruise
The Middle East is still an up and coming luxury cruise destination, but offers a wealth of heritage and history combined with natural beauty and the more contemporary attractions of Dubai.
Peak season for cruises to the Middle East take place from December through to March when the weather is mild and sunny days are guaranteed but make sure you do your research before you go as itineraries and destinations for Middle East cruises can vary tremendously.
