A Stay in a newly refurbished cottage with Rookley Park on the Isle of Wight

A couple of weeks ago we were invited to Rookley Park on the Isle of Wight to see their newly refurbished holiday cottages and lakeside homes.

Rookley Park is part of Island View Holidays which own several sites on the Isle of Wight, as well as sites in mainland UK too and we set off on a Wightlink ferry from Lymington to Yarmouth on a wet and blustery day.

Rookley Park is home to a beautiful collection of holiday cottages, lakehouses and caravans in a (mostly) sunny parkland setting at the heart of the Isle of Wight. This idyllic countryside location is within 20 minutes’ drive of half of the island’s beautiful beaches and a perfect location for families, with daily activities and entertainment throughout the school holidays.

Lakehouses
We were allocated a cottage for our stay which had a driveway for the car, a lovely garden area with decking area and a hot tub which overlooked a large pond.

Rookley Park Cottage
Although the cottage has a very early ’80’s look on the outside, inside it has been brought bang up to date with an open plan kitchen and living area, three spacious bedrooms and two well equipped bathrooms.

Kitchen Rookley Park
The kitchen had everything your could possibly need for a holiday, with a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave and oven as well as cooking equipment and crockery.

Dining Area
We really loved the styling of the property, particularly the dining table and large mirror which made the cottage feel homely and I can imagine throwing the large patio doors open in the summer to bring the outdoors in.

Rookley Park Cottage Lounge
The master bedroom and en-suite bathroom are situated downstairs at the back of the property and there are two further twin rooms and a shower room upstairs.

Twin Bedroom
The bedrooms are all equipped with plenty of storage space to be able to unpack and both bathrooms are clean and modern.

Bathroom
We all loved having the opportunity to relax in the hot tub too.

Hot Tub
My only grumble with the property is that there is currently no wifi, however I have been reassured that this is being addressed and it is available in the clubhouse at the top of the site should you need to use it.

Swimming Pool
Rookley Park’s facilities include an indoor heated swimming pool, outdoor pool, restaurant, bar, bicycle hire, kids play park, arcade, site reception, entertainment lounge and their huge our fishing lakes, which seem very popular.

Fishing
Although our cottage came equipped with a kitchen, we found that the restaurant was very reasonably priced and chose to eat there, rather than cooking. The food was delicious and we had the added bonus of Hubby being able to watch the football in the sports bar, whilst the kids enjoyed a disco.

Sports Bar
During the school holidays, Rookley Park also lays on activities for the kids such as volleyball in the pool and arts and crafts during the day, plus entertainment in the evening.

Clay Models
Eliza and Sebby particularly enjoyed the clay modelling and they all enjoyed making tie dye t-shirts.

Tie Dye
Sadly we didn’t have the best weather on our visit, but I have been assured that the Isle of Wight is officially the sunniest place in the UK and has some brilliant places to visit to keep the whole family occupied.

Rookley Lakes
We enjoyed all the activities on Rookley Park, but did head off-site to explore making visits to Carisbrooke Castle, Osborne House, as well as family favourites Blackgang Chine and Robin Hill.

The Isle of Wight famously has the best weather in the UK, however if it doesn’t play ball during your visit, check out Giving Up Normal’s 32 Indoor Places to spend a Rainy Day on the Isle of Wight.

I like that you get a proper cottage on a holiday park – I’ve not seen that before. I would struggle without wifi too unless mobile signal was good – I have unlimited data on my phone. I’m so envious of the kids in that hot tub.

Those fishing lakes look great! I’ve actually been thinking about taking our family on a carp fishing holiday to France because everyone seems quite keen on the idea. This cottage looks absolutely gorgeous though. Did you have a go at the fishing?
