BSO: Christmas Starts Here – Review
On Saturday, we were invited to Lighthouse Poole to attend the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s family-friendly concert of Christmas music to get us all into the holiday mood.
The Lighthouse was filled with multiple generations of families and we were all positively encouraged to join in from the start.
The concert of Christmas favourites included audience favourites Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, the key jangling Jingle Bells and Winter Wonderland, all performed wonderfully by the orchestra and BSO Voices choir, who kept us entertained with some quick costume changes. (We loved the antler dance)
There was also an exciting selection of Disney songs from Beauty and the Beast and Frozen, plus music from some of our favourite Christmas films including Home Alone by John Williams and a reading of the Night Before Christmas.
For those who have not attended a family concert before, there were some cheeky elves running round, encouraging the audience to join in and pulling some crackers, complete with some terrible jokes!
The highlight of the afternoon had to be the 12 Days of Christmas, where we all had to join in with some silly dance moves.
Don’t worry that you have missed a brilliant show as you can join the BSO and Bournemouth Symphony Chorus for a traditional festive singalong, Celebration of Christmas Carols in Poole on 23rd December. The concert will feature favourite Christmas hymns and songs, including O Come All Ye Faithful, Hark the Herald and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. This looks such a beautiful thing to go and see. There’s something about orchestras that give me goosepimples!

Sounds like it was such a fun night. I went to a choir last night in London and its such a fun thing to do with family right before Christmas.

I love listening to the BSO perform. Growing up we used to have Christmas concerts at the winter gardens and that always gets me in the festive spirit
