Pack Light, but Pack Right: Preparing for Long-Haul Travel

Whether you are going on a day trip or a quick vacation somewhere you’ve got to pack light but you’ve got to pack right. While most people overpack for the simplest journeys, when you are undergoing a long-haul journey or going travelling for a long time, you’ve got to find the right balance between packing the things that are essential without weighing you down. And when it comes to long haul flights they can be one of the most arduous aspects of travelling. Feeling cramped or sat next to someone who has hogged your armrest can set you up for a particularly miserable flight. But if you pack the right things, it can make life a lot easier.

Carry-On Luggage

Probably the most essential thing for a long-haul flight, a really good bag can contain a lot of the essentials. This means you’ve got to find something that you can carry but also has enough compartments to store pretty much anything you need, especially when you are having one of those long-haul flights and you cannot stand any of the in-flight movie choices. Whether you are someone who needs to distract yourself with a lot of literature and has purchased a new pair of glasses for the journey, remember that those people that purchase great vision at a price also need a great carry-on case for a decent price too! Carry-on luggage will consist of so much in the way of home comforts that you need a good sturdy bag to carry your laptop, your reading materials, and your flight essentials kit.

Pack a Flight Essentials Kit

Plane

If you need to endure a long flight, there are quite a few things that you need to pack not just to keep you distracted, but also to keep you sane. If you are enduring a long-haul 24-hour flight, baby wipes are a must. It’s the closest thing you will get to a bath for a good while, so use them. Deodorant is another essential not necessary for you but if you are sat next to someone who doesn’t smell particularly nice, spraying yourself can give you a nasal respite. A reusable water bottle is also essential. Flying in an airplane dries you out, so you need to be hydrated. You can fill up your own bottle after you pass security. And always pack some gum, not just for your breath, but it can help your ears as the plane ascends and descends. And don’t forget an eye mask!

Bring Your Own Entertainment

While we’ve already touched upon reading materials you need to find drown out the airplane noise, as well as the person next to you, bringing your own entertainment can help you to go into your own little world. Always be sure to pack noise-cancelling headphones and a Kindle. And always think about some sort of music device with a lot of tunes on there. It will come in handy for travelling while also so getting you inspired as you go.

Long-haul travel can be arduous, which is why you need some comfort but you also need to think about your sanity as well!
