Piccolo Mondo Wimborne – Review
Now that the kids are back to school, my husband and I try to have the same day off mid-week and we have been treating ourselves to either breakfast or lunch out.
We tend to head to chain restaurants with the kids, but we are trying to make a conscious effort to support local businesses and last week we headed into Wimborne and had lunch at the small, family run restaurant Piccolo Mondo, which is tucked away in a little square in the centre of town.
We picked a busy day for our visit, as they were not only hosting a party in the rear room, but it was a also busy lunchtime for the restaurant too. This did not detract from the service at all though, as we were warmly welcomed and seated quickly.
They offer a full menu at lunchtime, but we opted for their lunchtime specials, which are smaller versions of their main meals and very competitively priced at just £5.40.
My husband opted for the Polpette al Sugo (steak meatballs in a napoli tomato sauce) and as it was a hot day outside, I opted for the chicken salad.
Despite being busy, the staff were attentive, making sure we were served as quickly as possible and checking in to see if everything was ok.
The food was freshly cooked and delicious. My only disappointment was that I didn’t have any room for any dessert, as I have it on good authority that their salted caramel ice cream is not to be missed.
We will definitely be back very soon, as I really want to try their lasagne. Check out the Piccolo Mondo menu here.
Do you prefer eating at chain restaurants, or small independents?

I love supporting small businesses, and this restaurant looks excellent. Those lunchtime prices seem brilliant. I would be having the steak meatballs if it was me.

They never disappoint. Service is ALWAYS great. One of the friendliest places to eat, lunch or dinner. The menu is good and the food is just great.

Sounds lovely. We’ve taken Tuesdays off the last couple of weeks while the kids are both at school. There’s a little bit of guilt about not using kid-free days to get work done but the lunches have been good.
