Travelling to France: Ferry vs Plane
Back in February we made the journey from Poole to St Malo in France for half term.
It was a holiday we thoroughly enjoyed, although surviving a ferry journey with kids in bad weather was a steep learning curve.
Taking the ferry is far less hassle than travelling by air, as you avoid long queues to check-in, excess baggage charges and a 2 hour wait for your flight to even board.
Taking a ferry means you have to be at the terminal an hour before you need to board and can arrive closer to your final destination by choosing the closest port.
The best bit about ferries is that they have good duty-free shops on board, a kids play area or you can just choose to roam the ship without worrying you are getting in the way of flight attendants.
Being able to take our car to France was a real bonus as we travelled all over Normandy to visit sights such as Le Mont St Michel, the D-Day beaches, the Bayeux Tapestry and Pegasus Bridge which are all a good drive away from each other.
Driving in France was nerve-wracking at first but soon became second nature and we actually prefered it to driving in the UK as the roads are so much quieter!

We drove to France this summer and it was great to have to car! So easy to get around once there and the luxury of taking much more luggage lol x

I have a hard time driving in the UK because I’m so used to driving on the right side of the road. I wonder if being in your own car and with the gears on your “right” side it might be easier.
I traveled between France and Britain several times. I’ve tried the ferry and even the hovercraft (is that still being used or am I giving away my age here? ;)). I think I prefer the train (via the tunnel).
